Norwich Parking Study
The Corporation of the Township of Norwich
NOTICE OF STUDY - Downtown Parking Study and Strategy
The Township of Norwich is undertaking a downtown parking strategy and review project. The purpose of the study is to undertake a comprehensive review of the Township’s current inventory, identify parking trends and develop a plan to ensure that inventory is managed appropriately to meet stakeholder needs.
This study will address the key issue of how the community wishes to manage its valuable parking assets moving forward, which can be articulated through questions such as:
• Should the Township expand the supply of parking to address peak demands?
• Are there different ways to manage parking demand and/or supply to avoid or defer the need for costly construction of new municipal lots?
• Are there innovative ways to improve the parking experience for visitors, customers, and employees in the downtown areas?
• With all the changes influencing travel behavior today, what does the future of parking look like, and how do we prepare for it?
The study will assess the nature and extent of parking needs in the downtown area for on-street locations and public and private lots and identify actions to improve conditions.
The Township will prepare a Community Engagement Plan during the project's first phase to affirm our approach for consultation with businesses, residents, and visitors and conduct a Community Survey to gather information on experiences with parking in the downtown area.
Paradigm Transportation Solutions Limited has been hired by the Town to conduct parking surveys as part of the Town’s Downtown Parking Study and Strategy.
Paradigm Transportation Solutions will start data collection work the week of September 8th. Survey staff will collect data on the number of vehicles parked in the downtown area. During this time, access to all roads and sidewalks will not be interrupted. Survey staff will also be conducting in-person interviews on Friday September 12th to gather valuable feedback from those visiting the downtown area.
If you’d like to fill out the survey online you can do so here: www.surveymonkey.com/r/NorwichParking.
