Civic Addressing
Township of Norwich By-law No. 49-95 adopts addressing guidelines developed by Oxford County for the purpose of establishing and maintaining an accurate, County-wide, system of property identification.
Accurate property identification is crucial for several reasons including:
Emergency Services: Ensures that emergency responders can quickly locate the correct location during an emergency.
Service Delivery: Supports accurate and effective delivery of various services to the correct property.
It is the responsibility of property owners to keep and maintain their civic number plate or civic numbers, as the case may be, in good condition.
The Building Services Department is responsible for administering the civic addressing process which includes assigning civic addresses to properties.
It is the intent to assign a civic address to every property within the township that contains a building and any other property at which a potential emergency may occur.
Properties that do not have a civic address assigned shall be assigned a civic address by the Township upon issuance of a building permit to construct a building on the property.
Requesting a Civic Address
Despite a property not meeting the requirements noted above, a property owner may also request that their property be assigned a civic address.
Please contact the Township of Norwich Building Services Department if you wish to request a civic address be assigned to your property or if a replacement sign is required due to a sign being damaged or missing.
Rural Civic Number Plates
All rural properties and urban properties assigned a six-digit address number will be required to erect a civic number plate issued by the Township.
The civic number plate is required to be placed on its own post within 3m (10’) of the property line and within 3m (10’) of the edge of the driveway perpendicular to the fronting road. Civic number plates shall also be placed 1.5m (5’) to 2m (6’6”) above grade.
Fees
Civic Number Plate - $85.00 plus HST (includes the sign, post, and bolts)
Replacement Civic Number Plate - $73.00 plus HST (sign only)
