Protect your household pipes from FOG (fats, oils and grease)

October 15, 2019

Protect your household pipes from FOG (fats, oils and grease)  Residents can pick up a free FOG cup to help prevent sewer pipe

FOG cups are now available at the Township of Norwich.

In an effort to protect the sanitary sewer system and local septic tanks, Oxford County is now offering FOG cups as an easy way to store and dispose of kitchen fats, oils and grease. This free cup can be used to store accumulated kitchen fats, oils and grease in the fridge or freezer until you are ready to dispose of it in the garbage.

When grease is poured down the sink or in a toilet as a liquid, it eventually cools and hardens, restricting the flow of liquid and even clogging sewer pipes. This can lead to an expensive and unpleasant clean-up at the homeowner’s expense due to blocked pipes or hardened in a septic system. Using a FOG cup to dispose of fats, oils and grease instead of pouring these substances down the drain means you are saving yourself from a costly plumbing problem later on.

FOG cups are made available through the Your Turn program to equip municipalities with FOG cups to supply to their communities.
